Department of Labor Releases 2007 PERM Statistics
Released Date: February 27, 2008

Dear Client,
The Department of Labor's Office of Foreign Labor Certification has released the Permanent Labor Certification Program (PERM) data for Fiscal Year 2007, and that data is summarized in the attached document, "Attracting Global Talent to support Regional U.S. Economies."

Obtaining a certified PERM from the Department of Labor is the first step in filing an employment-based petition for permanent residency or a "Green Card" with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.  The PERM data from 2007 shows that over 85,000 PERM cases were certified in the last year, and that nearly 60% of the cases certified were for employers with less than 250 employees.  The PERM process was utilized by employers in a wide range of economic sectors including:

• Information Technology
• Advanced Manufacturing
• Educational Services
• Financial Services
• Health Care Services
• Hospitality & Tourism
• Construction
• Aerospace
• Retail Trade
• Biotechnology
• Automotive Services
• Agribusiness
• Transportation & Distribution
• Energy
• Geospatial Analysis

Texas was among the top 30 states and territories in the number of PERM cases certified, and as the attached document points out, "strong regional economies are built on attracting and maximizing talent and innovation."
